The deaths of three employees in a plane crash has dealt a blow to Tesla Motors just as it had emerged from a rough patch to become the nation's leading electric carmaker.

"Tesla is a small, tightly knit company, and this is a tragic day for us," Chief Executive Elon Musk said in a statement. The company withheld the names of the three employees, saying it was working with authorities to contact family members.

Tesla is best known for its $109,000 Roadster, which can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds. Though only 1,000 Roadsters have been sold so far, they have quickly become a favorite car of Hollywood stars and valley tech executives.

Tesla is also widely viewed as a bellwether for Silicon Valley's burgeoning cleantech industry, as electric cars prepare to enter the U.S. market in force in the next few years.

Though Tesla is the only electric vehicle manufacturer with a car on the road today, it faces formidable competition from companies such as Nissan, which will introduce the all-electric Leaf later this year.

"Making a business case out of new technology is always difficult," said Andrew Frank of the University of California-Davis and an expert on electric vehicles. "But when you've got 1,000 EV's on the road, that's 1,000 more than anyone else."

Last month, Tesla announced it was seeking to raise $100 million in an initial public offering of stock, according to a filing with the S.E.C....

The pilot and two passengers — all employees of Tesla Motors — were killed and three houses were damaged, including a home day care center.

The plane brought down a high tension transmission tower, then broke apart in a dramatic and terrifying descent over the East Palo Alto neighborhood. A wing slammed into the day care, landing gear smashed into a garage, an engine careened into a carport and the fuselage skidded to a halt in the middle of Beech Street. Flames shot out from houses and debris.

Miraculously, nobody on the ground was injured.

Pamela Houston and six others fled from the day care as the plane came crashing down shortly before 8 a.m.

"I grabbed the baby, and we ran into the street," she said. "We were all crying; we were screaming. There is not any word to describe the feeling.''

Authorities had not released the identities of any of the victims by late Wednesday. Authorities have also yet to identify who was piloting the plane, but the Cessna 310R was registered to a former Santa Clara company that was started by Doug Bourn, a Tesla engineer.

An investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board said it's too early to say whether the plane struck power lines or a 60-foot transmission tower.

At the time the plane took off, visibility was so poor — only one-eighth of a mile, and only 100 feet above the ground — that flights had been canceled or delayed at the Bay Area's three major airports. Yet others speculated that the plane's unusual veering path suggested a mechanical failure. Investigators said it will be at least five days before they

finish a preliminary probe and months after that for an official report into what happened.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said taking off in bad weather is left up to the discretion of the pilot, whether it be a commercial or private plane. The Palo Alto Airport's control tower opened at 7 a.m., and the Cessna was the only plane to take off between then and around 8 a.m., Gregor said. He added that most commercial airlines have policies to follow before a pilot decides to fly.

On the ground, the fog added to the confusion — and fear. Residents on Beech Street described waking up to explosions; some of them told of watching parts of the plane fall from the dense fog that blanketed the area. And saddest yet, a young girl and 10-year-old boy described seeing the bodies.

Ten-year-old Luis Ramirez Sandin said he was in his front yard, getting ready to go to school, when he saw the blue-and-white plane descend, rock from side to side and then suddenly veer toward his home. It plunged to the street, striking several vehicles and bursting into flames, he said.

"There was no way to get near to help out,'' said his father, Benjamin Ramirez, through a translator. "It was too hot, with tall blue flames. Everybody kept telling us to run. They told us not to get near it."

"The first thing I thought about was my daughters," said Leslie Ramos of Menlo Park who was driving down Beech Street to pick up her two girls, ages 3 and 6, just

as the plane was crashing. "I left my car in the middle of the street and ran to the house."

When she was reunited with her daughters a few minutes later, the youngest was crying.

Others ran into the street to find thick smoke rising from three houses. Many feared the worst for the children at the in-home day care center, but it was too early for them to have arrived, and the people living in the house managed to escape out the back. "Some neighbors ran to the house to help,'' said Houston, one of the people at the day care center.

Menlo Park Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman said he believes the plane clipped a power line on a PG&E high-tension transmission tower shortly after lifting off from the Palo Alto Airport runway just before 8 a.m., headed for Hawthorne Municipal Airport in Southern California.

Moments after the crash, the power went out in neighboring Palo Alto.

The city relies on PG&E's transmission lines to feed its city-run utility. Schools stayed open with teachers' improvising with no computers and principals using airhorns instead of class bells. Stanford Hospital resorted to backup power and diverted all nonemergency calls to hospitals outside the city.

Businesses throughout the city were either forced to close or count cash the old-fashioned way. Some merchants took to the sidewalks to hawk coffee, sandwiches and pastries. But many blacked out of Palo Alto's high-tech offices left for Menlo Park and Mountain View to crash at Wi-Fi cafes.

"I shudder at the thought of what it's going to cost in losses for these retailers," said Sherry Bijan, president of the Palo Alto Downtown Business and Professional Association.

When the Cessna took off, 16 Southwest Airlines flights out of Mineta San Jose International Airport already had been canceled because of the fog.

In foggy or cloudy weather conditions, planes taking of from Palo Alto Airport go straight down the runway and then turn 60 degrees to the right toward the bay at 1,000 feet, said Ken Gottfredson, who owns Advantage Aviation, a flying school and club for pilots that operates out of the Palo Alto Airport.

"He was off to the left of center by half a mile," Gottfredson said. "He should have been over the bay."

John Ferrell, a Los Altos Hills resident, who flies out of the airport three or four times a week, said he arrived there just after the ill-fated plane took off.

"You couldn't see 100 yards in front of you," Ferrell said. He noted that under those conditions, a plane can take off but not land because the runway isn't visible.

Despite speculation about the fog, Ferrell also suggested the plane's left engine may have gone out at takeoff, causing it to veer sharply to the left.

"Even in the best weather, if you lose an engine on takeoff, it's very difficult to overcome it," Ferrell said. "You have to level the wings. You have to feather the engine."

Bourn, an experienced pilot, has commercial and multiengine pilots licenses. An online bio from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers said he helped design and test the power electronics module for the Tesla Roadster. A graduate of Stanford University, Bourn enjoys "motorcycling, sky diving, flying and teaching others how to fly."

No one was home Wednesday morning at his single-story house in Santa Clara, where two motorcycles and a Lexus were in the driveway. Neighbors said he lives alone.

As investigators examined audio recordings to determine what caused a small plane to crash in a residential East Palo Alto neighborhood, authorities Thursday tentatively identified the three employees of Tesla Motors Inc. who died.

The pilot was Doug Bourn, 56, a senior electrical engineer who had worked for the electric carmaker for five years and who mentored others.

The company said Bourn, a flight instructor, loved flying.

Also onboard the twin-engine Cessna 310 was Brian Finn, 42, a senior interactive electronics manager, who started working for Tesla in July 2008.

"He brought overriding optimism and a pioneering spirit" to the company, said Elon Musk, Tesla's chief executive, on a company blog.

The third employee, Andrew Ingram, 31, an electrical engineer with Tesla for 2 1/2 years, "was passionate about electronics and exquisite audio systems, and was eager to lend a hand wherever it was needed, from marketing to manufacturing," Musk wrote.

Authorities said no distress signal came from the plane before it ran into electrical transmission lines and shed parts over blocks of a low-income neighborhood shortly after taking off about 8 a.m. Wednesday.

With visibility at one-eighth of a mile and a cloud ceiling of 100 feet, Bourn received authorization to fly using instruments.

The loss of the three men was expected to take a practical as well as emotional toll on Tesla, which is based in nearby San Carlos and has 500 employees.

In such a small company, the three probably took on responsibilities outside of their job descriptions, said Dennis Virag, president of the Automotive Consulting Group in Ann Arbor, Mich.

"Although they weren't executives in the company, these three guys are the type of guys who were doing the work, who were doing the innovative stuff that makes Tesla what it is," Virag said. "Not all electrical vehicles are the same. In fact, they could differ considerably depending on the company."

The investigation into what caused the crash is expected to be aided by "very clear and quite powerful" audio recordings of the plane going down, said East Palo Alto Mayor Ronald Davis.

The crash damaged four structures, destroying one home, and burned five vehicles. Nobody on the ground was injured.(src: LA Times)

"A small private plane that reportedly belonged to Joseph Andrew Stack crashed into the Echelon office building, very close to FBI and IRS offices in Austin, Texas, on Thursday morning."

Authorities now say that Stack committed suicide in the plane crash, according to CNN.

In addition, A message on a website owned by Stack reportedly includes a suicide note written by Stack. In the note, Stack apparently writes of his hatred for the IRS and the U.S. government.

At this time, authorities believe that the plane crash was a “criminal act” linked to an act of arson that happened 30 minutes before the crash, according to News 8 Austin.

The plane reportedly crashed into a building next to the Professional Education Center of St. Edward’s University, a private Catholic university, while classes were in session. Officials have not released information about casualties yet, but the university’s website currently states that “All employees and students that were in the building have been accounted for” and that the building has been evacuated. While the Professional Education classes have been cancelled for the day, the rest of St. Edward’s classes will not be changed. The university currently enrolls over 5,000 students, including undergraduate and graduate students.

The circumstances of the damage to the building next to the Professional Education Center are still unclear.

Dave Page worked on Joseph Stack's plane at Lincoln airport
LINCOLN, CA - An airplane mechanic who worked on Joseph Stack's plane expressed shock over the news that the pilot may have deliberately flown his plane into an Austin office building Thursday morning.

"It was uncharacteristic of the Joseph Stack I knew," said Dave Page, who worked on Stack's plane between 1999 and 2000 at a Lincoln Regional Airport maintenance facility.

Page said Stack flew his PA-28-236 Dakota to Palo Alto where he worked as a software engineer.

"The fellow I knew was a pretty upbeat guy. Hard-working guy, flew to the Bay Area almost everyday for work. He was a musician. One time he built his own experimental aircraft, a real busy guy. But to see this news, I can't believe it." said Page.

Page said when Stack moved to Texas several years ago, he mentioned the tax laws were better in Texas than in California.

"He made a few comments about the tax structure was favorable and he was looking forward to getting down there and out of California," said Page.

Property records reveal Stack had ties to Lincoln for 27 years. He lived in the Auburn Creek Apartments on O Street between December 1997 and May of 1998.

Stack also maintained a mailbox at PJ's Mail & Parcel Service on Sixth Street between 1997 and 2005. Owner Polly Rowan said she spoke with Stack regularly when he picked up his mail.

"Probably just small talk. I don't think I really had a long conversation with him," said Rowan.

Plane hits: 'Whoosh, a roar and a boom'

A small plane crashed into a business tower that houses some federal offices in Austin on Thursday morning, engulfing the entire front half of the seven-story building in flames.

The plane, which according to reports was a Cherokee Piper, hit the Echelon Building on Mopac and U.S. 183 around 10 a.m

A federal law enforcement official has identified the pilot as Joseph Stack, 53, and says investigators are looking at an anti-government message on the Web linked to him.

Stack, who owned software company, died in the crash, officials confirmed.

The Web site outlines problems with the IRS and says violence "is the only answer."

. Two men were injured. One of the victims is at Seton, the other was sent to Brooke Army Medical Center's burn unit in San Antonio with second-degree burns on his back.

The victim at Seton said he's grateful he's alive and that he wants everyone to know he is OK. He told the doctor he just wants to go to church and go home.

President Barack Obama and Homeland Security officials have been notified, authorities said.

The official said authorities are looking for a motive at Stack's company Web site. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an investigation still in progress.

The Web site featured a long note dated Thursday denouncing the government and the IRS in particular. It cited the Austin man's problems with the agency.

Federal officials are reporting to CNN that the plane's pilot set his own house on fire in Northwest Austin, and then crashed the into the building.

The fire, which happened around 9:15 a.m. in the Scofield Farms neighborhood, destroyed the $236k home that belonged to Stack. Stack is a registered pilot of a Piper PA 28-236.

A 12-year-old girl and a woman were rescued from the burning house. The girl is presumed to be to Stack's stepdaughter.

According to FAA reports, the plane departed Georgetown airport north of Austin about 9:40 a.m. and was a Cirrus SR 22. The pilot evidently did not file a flight plan, according to reports. No flight plan is required because it is a VFR (visual flight rules) day, meaning clear weather.

There was still no information on the number of people in the plane, or on a tail number, at 1 p.m..

Witnesses at the scene say that a single engine plane that appeared to be a Cherokee 140 did not appear to be having any trouble, but hit the building at an angle. No smoke or any sign of trouble was visible.

""It shot right across the road," said James Cullen, a witness. "It sure was hauling. It was a really speed dive."

Ok... so let's speculate a little, or a lot, (we like to do that here!) so we can cover all possibilities...

Let's take a look at the recent CYBER-SHOCKWAVE training and simulation op...

Now let's speculate...

If you were designing a project to locate all possible civil dissidents via the internet using the ECHELON systems which have been in constant and perfect operation for well over a decade now (more like 5 since creation), it would be beneficial to the training exercise to have a real event to work with.

If you've previously located a financially troubled individual through the IRS and tax data and identified them medically/genetically as potentially unstable you set up "a series of unfortunate events" to occur in the individual's life. The tax dept. (IRS) could be used to create hardship and added stress in the life of individual. You could make sure that contracts or jobs were not awarded to the individual. You could employ auditory microwave "thought warfare" equipment to push the individual to the brink of sanity. You could use the same equipment to create auditory events which to the individual would be very difficult to distinguish from his/her own thoughts.

Once you have the individual "pushed to the edge" you can easilty cripple their weakend sanity through the employment of the same equipment, by suggesting violent or revolutionary acts directly via microwave to the individual's mind. (ref: the Jesse Ventura TruTV Conspiracy Theory episode in which the former US State of MINnesota Governor and former Navy SEAL, Jesse Ventura, demonstrates the use of this type of technology).

You could then use your CYBER-WARFARE teams or private think-tanks, as part of a project to create materials to be used in future domestic terror training scenarios, to create a manifesto and place it on a server. You would do that if attempts to dictate the manifesto to the target individual and have them personally place it on a site, fail.

Once the "training material" is in place you could then attack a building with a separate and compartmentalized team using remote control aircraft.

When the event actually occurs, you send out your real assembled cyber-teams to spider the net with search bots and locate any information which may relate to the event in question.

You would let the media and normal human behavior and reaction whip the story up into a frenzy and then release the planted material discovered and retrieved by the spider search bots to mass mainstream media.

You would then use the ECHELON system to monitor all traffic for agreement with the principles outlined in your "training manifesto" and thereby discovering and uncovering a large portion of the sympathizers within your national borders.

You would then flag those individuals discovered for closer monitoring and scrutiny to determine who may be an actual threat to national security.

...and Voila, at the same time a perfect and successful training op for new personnel using a "real-world" (but contrived) scenario.

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Joseph Andrew Stack is the name of the pilot who allegedly flew a small plane into a seven-story office building in Austin, Texas Thursday.

A possible suicide note has been found on the Web site . It appears to belong to Stack.

The last line of the rant states "I saw it written once that the definition of insanity is repeating the same process over and over and expecting the outcome to suddenly be different. I am finally ready to stop this insanity. Well, Mr. Big Brother IRS man, let’s try something different; take my pound of flesh and sleep well."

The domain name is registered to a Joe Stack.

NTSB sources told Fox News that they are investigating theis as an intentional act. They believe Stack may have set his house on fire earlier in the day, then took flight in the plane and crashed it into the downtown Austin building.

Stack's daughter reportedly told authorities that her father set the home on fire.

MyFox Austin reported that Austin firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1800 block of Dapplegrey Lane. Upon arrival firefighters say the entire house was engulfed in flames.

The plane is believe to have taken off from a small airport in Georgetown, Texas. It is not clear whether the plane was registered to Stack, according to Fox News.

The plane struck the second floor building of the Echelon office building about 10 a.m. and burst into flames.

Reports speculate that Stack, a software engineer, who may have been employed in Austin,had an ongoing feud with the IRS, which has offices located in the building in which the plane crashed.

The plane was single-engine Piper Cherokee.

A tall ship carrying 42 Canadians has sunk off the coast of Brazil, but all those on board the vessel have been rescued.

The SV Concordia, of the West Island College Class Afloat program in Montreal, was carrying 63 people when it went down near Rio de Janeiro.

The 42 Canadians consisted of a mix of 11th and 12th grade high school students, first year university students, and professional crew members.

All those on board were able to board life rafts and were later picked up by three merchant ships in the area, Class Afloat told CTV on Friday morning. From there they will be transferred to a Brazilian navy ship and taken to shore.

The tall ship, out of Montreal, Que. went down off the Brazilian coast near Rio de Janeiro while en route to Uruguay, Dom Phillips of The London Times told CTV from Brazil.

He said survivors reported that the ship encountered strong winds before it went down, though there has been no official word on what caused it to sink.

Canadian officials "are aware of the sinking of the West Island College Class Afloat ship, SV Concordia, off the coast of Brazil," said a statement from Foreign Affairs.

"Brazilian authorities are currently leading a search and rescue operation to assist the ship and its passengers."

According to the statement Canadian diplomatic personnel are currently working with their Brazilian government partners to "monitor and assist with the situation."

According to a Google map tracking the ship's progress on Class Afloat's website, the Concordia was south of Rio and east of Sao Paulo on Feb. 17, sailing in moderate to rough seas with clear skies.

That position put the ship 13,092 nautical miles from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, the port of departure.

I have no idea if this will lead you to anything but, there is a word that the media (mainly sports commentators) are using A LOT now:


I heard this a couple times during the Super Bowl during the game.

Second, it's being used to the point of nausea during the Olympics.

Third, I just found out the latest 20th "season" (they've been on air since 2000) of "Survivor" is titled, "Heroes vs. Villians: REDEMPTION"

Strangely, I left a message on your comment board recently about a new author I've discovered, Laurel Dewey, and her latest hardcover (a sequel to her first book) is guessed it, REDEMPTION.

These "syncs" are happening more and more with this word and it seems somewhat strange, IMO.

Palo Alto, where 3 TESLA EMPLOYEES died in a plane crash not but 24 hours earlier !!

the tail number given matched the PA-28-236 Austin/Joe Stack/Echelon crash with the USAF A-26 Interceptor civil number.

The Tesla Motor P.A. (Palo Alto) Cessna 310R crash into the Cypress St (TOWER and POWER lines) and then into the houses on Beech St. was a different number (N5225J)

The Austin crash over the TAXES in TEXAS makes me think "AU-S-TIN POWERS" in GOLDMEMBER - And "The Spy WHO Shagged Me", with the Time Machine...
