Obama stays at hotel where Whitney Houston died
By JENNIFER EPSTEIN | 2/15/12 8:12 PM EST
President Obama is spending Wednesday night at the Beverly Hilton, the same hotel where singer Whitney Houston died over the weekend.
In Los Angeles for two fundraisers, Obama arrived at the hotel around 4:40 p.m. local time and is spending about an hour there before attending the first event.
Houston was found unresponsive in room 434 of the hotel on Saturday afternoon. Since then, crowds have flocked to the hotel to mourn her.
It's likely that advance staff and members of the Secret Service were in the hotel on the day Houston died, since they arrive at hotels several days before the president stays there.
Obama hasn't issued a statement about the singer's death, but White House press secretary Jay Carney said the president's "thoughts and prayers are with her family, especially her daughter. It's a tragedy to lose somebody so talented at such a young age."
